TechnologyThe Computer Lab is equipped with 25 Dell Windows XP computers and 8 HP printers. It is also equipped with scanners, digital cameras, a projector and a television with a dvd player. All computers have Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and Publisher), Adobe Photoshop Elements, Robolab Programming software, Kid Pix and many educational software programs for all grade levels. In addition each classroom has at least one computer with Internet access and a printer. All computers in the school have filtering software and are networked. Also available are laptops with a projector and cart that can be used in any classroom. A recent addition to our technology is a white board permanently installed in the science lab, as well as a portable white board available to any classroom. Robotics/LEGOSClick here and here to see and hear what the fourth graders do with robotics. Another component of our technology program is engineering and the design process using LEGO bricks. The students begin learning the design process in kindergarten and move up to programming by grade three. In kindergarten to grade 2, the students design, build and test their creations. By grade three they are taught to use Robolab, programming software designed by MIT, to operate robotic devices with motors and sensors. During the summer of 2009 two St. Agnes teachers attended a Tufts University program designed to teach science concepts to the third and fifth grades using LEGO bricks. During the 2009 - 2010 school year, Tufts professors and fellows will be assisting these teachers at St. Agnes. The focus for third grade is properties of matter and for the fifth - sound.
